These flies are one of my staple patterns. The shop vac is similar to the Pheasant Tail of old, but includes some new features. A tungsten brown bead to help it sink and stay low, a great bit of natural contrast to provide a trigger for the fish, and a small size to imitate the true size of many natural insects. I have fished these during hatched of both caddis and mayflies and found great success. On this specific pattern I don’t use bright, neon, or UV hotspots as is common. The reason is, I like to have patterns that really get fish going, but when those aren’t doing the trick a more natural looking bug will find it’s way on the end of my tippet. Often resulting in more fish!
These flies are sold in sets of 3 and are tied by Ethan Martin.
