When you want to imitate a stonefly or some other large insect, and get deep fast, this is the fly for you! It’s tied on a size 8 Daichii jig hook and paired with a 3.5 tungsten bead to help maximize weight. There are also wraps of lead-free wire to give the body a little extra bulk and increase weight. This is a great anchor pattern and helps catch fish other flies simply can’t reach. The hook point rides up in the water column, which means you will catch more fish and less rocks, sticks, and twigs!
The specific fly in the photograph is shown after landing 15 fish (I oftentimes retire bugs after 15 trout when they are a new pattern). The photograph reveals the durability and longevity this fly pattern has. Even after 15 fish it could definitely keep going!
This is a pattern created and tied by Ethan Martin.
